R. E.  (Ed) Lay – Managing Partner / Emeritus Founder: After over 20 years of senior executive management experience spanning both private and public / international companies, Lay founded The Emeritus Group in 1995 providing performance improvement and IT systems design and development services to private clients and Fortune 500 corporations.  From 1995-2000, Lay was also co-founder of InSITE Services – New York where he developed the first Internet billing system and energy information services bureau for the North American electric utility industry.  In 2001, InSITE was sold to American Electric Power. Beginning late in 2001, Emeritus focused its efforts on the emerging US Life Settlement industry. As a result, Emeritus was the first company to develop a life settlement portfolio analysis and management system (Paradigm) in 2004. Emeritus International Group today is a recognized leader in the design and development of insurance-linked securities and life settlement structured portfolios. Prior to founding The Emeritus Group, Lay held senior corporate management positions with NV Philips, Eindhoven, Netherlands and Affiliated Distributors, King of Prussia, PA., and most recently served as Chairman and CEO of Emeritus Capital Partners, LLC – New York.  Lay is member of the 3DATX Corporation Board of Directors based in Buffalo. NY, is a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society, NA and has been an advisor to the University of Tennessee College of Arts and Sciences in various capacities since 1974.

Joseph Kasni – Managing Partner:  Joseph Kasni is an expert in real estate development and alternative energy.  His expertise in business development related to real estate spans 30 years. Over that period, he  established relationships with US, Canadian and European-based developers in the acquisition and funding of diversified projects. These relationships have created a global network of senior-level contacts and relationships with International Broker Dealers, Investment Bankers and their Affiliates. Mr. Kasni attended Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Jon Montgomery – Managing Partner / Director - Emerging Markets:  Jon Montgomery currently directs the emerging markets segment of Emeritus business development operations. He was most recently a Managing Partner at project finance advisory firm AGlobal Partners LLC where he was responsible for arranging long-term, limited-recourse financing for private investments in renewable energy, telecommunications, mining & metals, PPPs, and other infrastructure projects in emerging and other international markets. He also advised clients on foreign direct investments, including those utilizing development finance institutions (OPIC, IFC, etc.), export credit agencies (U.S. Export-Import Bank, etc.), and political risk insurers (OPIC, MIGA, etc.). In addition, he has more than 25 years of marketing consulting and market research experience across a range of industries, informing and guiding clients through strategic business challenges, and with expertise in business plan evaluation and development—strategy, competitive positioning, demand forecasting, and revenue modeling. Previously, he co-founded Hudson Group Inc. in New York, a strategic marketing consulting firm. His key client-practice industries included financial services, technology, media, retail, pharmaceuticals, and consumer packaged goods. He also held prior positions as Executive Vice President at Marketing Strategy & Planning Inc./Synovate in New York, and Vice President at Hase Schannen Research Associates Inc. in Princeton, New Jersey. Mr. Montgomery holds a M.B.A. from Northeastern University and a B.A. in English from the University of California, Berkeley. Since 2001 he has been Adjunct Faculty in Marketing, The University of Georgia.

K. T. Huang, Ph. D. - Managing Partner / Senior Advisor: Dr. Huang is currently CEO of AzTrong Technologies / Taiwan, a provider of graphene-based nano-composite products and solutions.  He is the former President / CEO of Nanotune Industries, an emerging leading in the development of super conductor storage batteries for the Alternative Energy Industry. He is also an expert in the development of graphene, one of the most important materials for the future of the computer, lighting and handheld device industries. Dr. Huang has extensive practices in strategic consulting, private equity investment, executive management, and investment partnerships including chairman of Infinity Global Investment Ltd., senior consultant of Delta Asia Partners, senior consultant of National Institute of Health, chairman of Taskco e-Business, and Vice President of IBM. He is a specialist in Business Transformation, M&A, Intellectual Capital Valuation, Risk modeling and Analysis, Business Intelligence and Electronic Health Records.  Dr. Huang received his Ph.D. in EECS from MIT, MS in Math from Illinois and BS in Math from NTNU. He has published numerous papers, books, and patents and is a world-renowned expert in data systems design and development.  Presently, Dr. Huang is adjunct professor at Fordham University where he has developed the first graduate level medical informatics program.

Andrew Murphy has been a principal of commercial real estate finance firm The Murphy Agency LLC for almost 20 years. The firm is also a licensed insurance broker, affiliated with Allstate Insurance Company. He has been awarded numerous Allstate honors, including the Honor Ring (six times) and Chairman’s Conference (3 times) as a top producer of commercial auto insurance nationwide. Mr. Murphy is also co-developer and principal of Lawyers Financial Corporation, coordinating the operations of a combined mortgage, legal settlement, and title insurance company based in New York and Virginia. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Agristructure LLC.

Dan Ionescu - Senior Advisor: Dan Ionescu began his architectural endeavor at the Ion Mincu School of Architecture at the University of Bucharest, Romania, and later continued his studies in the United States, graduating with a degree in architecture from Pratt Institute in New York. He started his career with Edward Durell Stone, where he later became responsible for the design of multi-million dollar projects in the U.S. and abroad including “El Conquistador” hotel and resort in Puerto Rico, and The College of Staten Island. Formerly a principal of Freeman + Ionescu,  Architects and Urban Development Consultants, he led the effort in conceptualizing new architectural programs and developing ideas for new entertainment-based destinations as part of a series of master plan studies prepared for major development groups involved in reshaping the map of the leisure industry, including hotels and casino resorts, redevelopment of significant urban sites located mainly in downtown areas, riverfront developments as well as re-purposing under-utilized land in various suburban areas. Dan was also the principal in charge for the submission of the design proposal for the redevelopment of the New York City Coliseum at Columbus Circle for Hines Group and Simon DeBartolo development team. Significant master planning projects include Intergenerational Housing in German Town, PA, Revitalization of Downtown Camden, NJ; Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia, Student Housing in San Marcos, TX and Palawan Island Resort in the Philippines.

He started Dan Ionescu Architects with the renovation of major prestigious downtown office buildings such as Constitution Plaza in Hartford, CT, and Trinity Center in New York City. His experience also encompasses the design of millions of square feet of interior offices for major corporations including MCA, Donnelley Directory, Hayward Industries, etc. Dan is a member of the American Institute of Architects and NCARB and is registered to practice architecture in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Illinois, Florida, Texas and Kansas. His work has been published in various international architectural publications and the national press.
